Help and Support for Vulnerable People in Bassetlaw - Latest News

Please see the latest information provided by Bassetlaw District Council.

Bassetlaw District Council is working with Bassetlaw Community and Voluntary Service (BCVS), Nottinghamshire County Council, community groups and other agencies in Bassetlaw to provide help and support for vulnerable residents at risk from Coronavirus.

Many people may already have family nearby or good neighbours who are looking out for them. However, for residents who may feel socially isolated or concerned, the Council and BCVS can help by:

  • Picking up prescriptions
  • Providing help with shopping
  • Arranging food parcels for those in need (and who are not in receipt of a Government food parcel)
  • A weekly keep in touch call to ensure people are safe and well

To access these services call Bassetlaw District Council on 01909 533 533 between 9am – 5pm, seven days a week, including over Easter. Residents can also email us at customer.services@bassetlaw.gov.uk

More information can be found via:

Foodbank Provision

Foodbank services in Bassetlaw are currently being provided by BCVS, supported by Bassetlaw District Council, with distribution centres in Worksop and Retford. If you need Foodbank Services, please call Bassetlaw District Council on 01909 533 533

Bin Collections

All our bin collections are running at the moment, with residual, recycling and garden waste collections carrying on as normal. Where we have had disruptions to rounds, we have ensured collection by the end of the week. We will collect bins on Good Friday and Easter Monday as normal.

Support for Businesses

Government have now updated and streamlined their business information into one gov.uk location. Details on grants, job retention scheme and support for the self-employed can all be found via the link below.

There is also a wealth of Business information on the Council website: https://www.bassetlaw.gov.uk/coronavirus-covid-19/help-for-businesses-during-coronavirus/

We are asking residents not to burn garden waste or other materials during the lockdown.

Coronavirus (Covid-19) can cause significant respiratory problems for people who contract the illness. This means that people managing their symptoms at home may need to have their windows open to help improve their breathing. This includes vulnerable people such as asthmatics, people with bronchitis and the elderly. Smoke coming from bonfires for these people at this time is likely to have a bigger impact on their health.

Smoke and the smell from bonfires are regular complaints that the council receive. However, we are seeing a significant increase in these complaints at the moment. We are asking our residents to please consider their neighbours as more people will be wanting to enjoy their gardens during these unusual times as well as being able to open their windows and hang washing out.
